It's all about that Cab!

Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the many famous bourdeoux varietals in Alexander Valley. Chris did a fantastic job describing the varietal characteristics, and I want to take this chance to describe two of our Cabernet Sauvignons that you may see poured in our tasting room.

Monte Rosso Vineyard, 1100 feet above Sonoma Valley
Starting last weekend we began pouring our 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon from Monte Rosso Vineyard in the Sonoma Valley AVA. This older vintage holds true many of the famed vineyards characteristics. It is chalked full of that high elevation mineral earthyness from the red volcanic rocky soil that is Monte Rosso. This vintage is known for its bolder characteristics as well as toasted oak, dark fruits with soft tannins and spice. Imagine pairing this Monte Rosso Cab with a proscuitto, brie cheese, and fig spread sandwich from Jimtown or with a butter mushroom cream sauce poured over a grilled steak.

One of our more esteemed cabs is our 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate Vineyard; which was the 2010 Sonoma County Harvest Fair Sweepstakes Red Winner! This particular Cab is a wonderful treat! It has great tannins and a smooth body that produce a wonderful smokey finish. One may taste dark fruit, hints of tobacco and possibly dark chocolate. This wine would best be paired with a hamburger topped with smoked bacon and fresh garden tomatoes and lettuce. ~ Lucy
